Fashion rules at Wimbledon

Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova and the Williams sisters have all revelled in the glory of being a Wimbledon champion but this week their keen eye for fashion fell under the spotlight when they introduced traditionally un-sporty garments to the tennis fold.

It all began when champion Roger Federer stepped on to Centre Court to defend his title sporting a cardigan, rather than the neatly pressed blazer fans have become used to in the past couple of years.

The world number one had decided the jacket, which last year was coupled with a pair of long trousers, was perhaps enough two years on the trot.

“We [Nike] thought about something nice like a cardigan, a jumper,” he revealed. “I think the result is nice. I have a belt as well this year. Just some new, fresh things. It’s a little bit more easier to wear than the jacket to be honest.”
